BGB 630 Upon the termination of a permanent service relationship , the person obliged may demand from the other party a written reference on the service relationship and its duration . The reference must extend , on demand , to the services performed and conduct in service . The reference may not be provided in electronic form . If the person obliged is an employee , section 109 of the Trade Code [ Gewerbeordnung ] applies .
